Free Book

Just to let you all know (hopefully not too late!) that if you have the internet, you don't need to buy this book. It's available as an audio book as a podcast on iTunes, and it is also available here to read.

Emma

Emma asked me to pass on her apologies, she's not going to be able to make book group for at least a couple of meetings due to study commitments. She hopes to be back as soon as possible.

Meeting Venue?

I was looking on Sugarvine for places that do offers on Thursdays (assuming we are moving to the 15th. www.sugarvine.co.uk)

Anyone fancy www.englishlounge.co.uk - it looks all bookish and library-ish and we get 15% off the bill.

Hi folks,

Sorry to be a pain (again!) but can we make the next meeting on the 15th seeing as no-one had a preference?

Am trying to arrange a meeting and those I'm meeting with have suggested the 12th...

If it's at all a problem for anyone let me know, and I'll work something else out!

And I promise to be better behaved next month :

Hopefully without detracting from the seriousness of the shooting of Hrant Dink in Turkey this week, which I can only hope will bring Turkey closer to facing up to its past, there are a series of fascinating parallels between this event and the final scenes of 'The Black Book'. See what you think...

Rearranged meet

Julie has requested that we change the date of book group. She suggested Monday 12th or Thursday 15th. So far Julie, Penny, Anne, Natalie and myself have expressed no preference. How about we go for the 12th?

Our Book for February 2007 Is....

...Nella Last's War, which is the diaries of 'Housewife 49' (who it turns out, probably was 49 at some point in the story after all. I am easily confused!) written for the Mass Observation project during the war.

If anyone is interested in Mass Observation and the Mass Observation Archive, their website is here. There is some general info about the history of Mass Observation and, of course, how Mass Observation is continuing today.

Next Meet Postponed

It seems a few of us are a bit behind with the current book and we thought it best to postpone the next meet till the 16th of January (same time same place). I hope this isn't inconvenient for anyone, we can always change the day. Apologies if anyone has tried desperately to finish by the 9th! Georgina has booked us a table, so we don't need to worry about that.
